Interventions Week 4

This week, September 5-8th, 2023, was a short week for me! Coming off of the Labor Day Holiday, we already had a shortened week, but unfortunately, I would only be able to be in class for one day. I was unable to participate in many of this week's activities as I caught a sickness that has taken out most of my senior class.

This week my class participated in a field trip to Saad's hospice, a local end-of-life care center. They received a tour of the facilities (which I have heard are fabulous) and were given insight about the field from those working at Saad's. I cannot wait to hear about their stories from the trip when I come back to school next week! They also participated in a skills lab this week; naturally I cannot wait to hear about that either

even though I'm quite jealous.

I was, however, able to do our assignments for this week while sitting at home. I completed a discussion post about patients' rights, first. In this assignment I learned a lot about how the law approaches patients' rights, with some rights falling under federal law while others under state law. These issues cover a wide range of topics from preventing discrimination to respecting the privacy of patients. The second assignment I completed covered medical root terminology. This assignment allowed me to indentify root terms and their meanings so that I can understand medical terminology that may come my way in the future. It was fascinating to learn that many of the medical terms we have today come from greek and latin. How far we have come as a society!

Although I spent much of this week in my bed at home, I still gained valuable skills through our written assignments, and I look forward to rejoining class next week. I also cannot wait for all the fun stories they have to tell about this week's activities!
