This past week, my Interventions in Biomedical Sciences class did a series of independent assignments that will aid us in our yearly coursework. We began the week with a discussion post focusing on the difference between Scholarly and Regular Writing. Scholarly writing has an academic tone that presents information in a mostly unbiased way. Scholarly writing uses clever word choice that is still easily digestible and not overly littered with complex jargon. Normal writing can be filled with emotional appeals, contractions, and simple language.
The next day, we finalized our proposals and sent them off to the Biomed Capstone Committee for review. I hope that they approve me to study Emergency Medicine!
For the rest of the week we worked on our presentations to introduce our topics to the rest of our class. In our presentations, we give an overview of the field, including settings for practice and the different subspecialties found within that category. Next, I discussed which subspecialties I could find myself practicing. Lastly I discussed my reasons for interest in the field and my overall plans for the future. I recorded audio presenting these slides (a task that took me an absurd amount of time), and I plan to present them to my class next week.
This week was very helpful in developing skills that will aid me for the rest of this year from working on my writing skills to understanding how to work google slides. I can't wait to present next week!
