This past Friday, March 26, our Fundamentals in Biomedical Sciences Class was visited by Dr. Hill, a general dentist! She is from Muscle Shoals Alabama and has been in dentistry for over 20 years. As a general dentist, she diagnoses, treats, and manages overall oral healthcare needs including gum care, root canals, fillings, crowns, veneers, bridge, and preventive education.
She had a long path to take to act become a practicing dentist. She attended Birmingham Southern for her undergraduate degree in which she majored in Biology. She then was accepted into the highly competitive dental school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After 4 years at this school, she became a general dentist. She has been practicing ever since! Three years after becoming a Dentist, she bought her own practice from a previous employer.
Becoming a Dentist is a rigorous and long task. Dental school admissions are extremely competitive. At UAB, 75-100 students are selected and 1,300 apply! One must pass many difficult examinations to become a dentist once in dental school.
I greatly enjoyed hearing from Dr. Hill! I loved hearing from a female physician (especially one in a male dominated field)
